Trans Woman Sues CrossFit Over Discrimination

Chloie Jonnson, pictured here looking 100000000% badass, is suing CrossFit over not allowing her to compete as a woman in the CrossFit Games. In the $2.5 million lawsuit against the company, she says that since she has undergone GRS and is recognized as a woman in her home state of California that she should be allowed to compete as a woman.

In a letter that TMZ says they have from CrossFit to Chloie in response to her asking their policy, the company states.

"We have simply ruled that based upon [Chloie] being born as a male, she will need to compete in the Men's Division."

CF argues ... "The fundamental, ineluctable fact is that a male competitor who has a sex reassignment procedure still has a genetic makeup that confers a physical and physiological advantage over women."

But in the letter, CF gets aggressive — saying, "Our decision has nothing to do with 'ignorance' or being bigots — it has to do with a very real understanding of the human genome, of fundamental biology, that you are either intentionally ignoring or missed in high school."

This ruling goes against the recent trend in sports concerning trans athletes. For a long time the most widely followed standard was the International Olympic Committee's requiring athletes to have undergone GRS, been on hormones for at least two years, and be legally recognized as their gender. Lately the requirement for GRS has been dropped from some organizations and more and more sports organizations, down to the K-12 level have been accepting trans athletes. More about trans sports policies can be read here.

The letter, if real, does not reflect actual scientific understanding of human bodies and the effects of transition on it. Instead it reflects a transmisogynistic refusal to accept a trans woman is a woman.
