I can't stop reading this map with the literal meanings of the names of places in North America. Its easy to think of a place's name as a somewhat sterile designation (WTF is an "Idaho?") but all those names have a literal meaning. Idaho means "Light on the Mountains," which is a name more beautiful and poetic than the state itself.
I'm cruising around the west coast looking at places I'm familiar with. Eureka means, "I found it!" and San Francisco is "Saint Little Frank One." Go south and Mexico becomes "Navel of the Moon." Chicago, of course, is "Stink Onions."
Anyway, I thought it was a beautiful and interesting and worth sharing.
