I know I'm not the first person to say this and I know most of you guys wouldn't do this, but after the thread about Ann Coulter's AMA, yesterday, I thought I would just put out a friendly reminder to please spread the word to your friends and neighbors: it is not okay to call Ann Coulter a transsexual.
There is nothing inherently wrong with being a trans woman. Many of us are productive members of society, others are terrible horrible people, some of us are incredibly attractive, and some of are not, all of this falls in the normal spectrum. None of those things have anything to do with with a whether a person is trans or not.
Besides, insulting her based on her looks is cheap and petty. We don't need to resort to cheap and petty to make her look like a terrible person. We don't even need to misquote or misconstrue things she's said or wait patiently for leaked emails or secret video tapes, she has left us an entire body of definitively horrible things she has said on live television or published her very own self. I personally witnessed her say (in response to a question): "I don't care why [people in Muslim countries] hate us, I hate them and I want them to die."
If you don't want to go through the trauma of listing to her in person, Wiki Quotes has a nice collection of terrible Ann Coulter quotes. Some gems include:
- I think there should be a literacy test and a poll tax for people to vote. Commentary on Hannity & Colmes, Fox News, 17 August 1997
- You remember what a fabulous success court-ordered "desegregation" plans have been. Few failures have been more spectacular. Illiterate students knifing one another between acts of sodomy in the stairwell is just one of the many eggs that had to be broken to make the left's omelette of transferring power from states to the federal government."Ashcroft and the blowhard discuss desegregation", Townhall, 17 January 2001; in her book How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must) (2004) this passage is slightly revised to end with assertions about "transferring power from cities to the federal courts."
- I think [women] should be armed but should not vote ... women have no capacity to understand how money is earned. They have a lot of ideas on how to spend it ... it's always more money on education, more money on child care, more money on day care.—Remarks on Politically Incorrect (26 February 2001)
- A cruise missile is more important than Head Start.—Remarks during an address (November 2001), rebroadcast by C-SPAN in January 2002, quoted in "Amy Goodman vs. Ann Coulter" in High Timber Times (29 September 2009)
And that's only through 2001 (I couldn't handle reading any more). The take away here is that there is no reason to grasp at straws when putting down Ann Coulter. Her awfulness speaks for itself. You don't need to resort to calling her: ugly, mannish, or a "tranny."
She is not a trans woman. She doesn't like us and we don't like her*, so please, leave us out of discussions of Ann Coulter's looks or personality.
*Generally speaking, I try to shy away from making statements on behalf of all trans folks but I'm pretty confident that I'm on solid ground here.
