Yup! It's that time again, where we talk about all the cool stuff we started, finished, or managed not to ignore! All crafts are welcome (as I'm about to show), as is stuff you sell for cash monies.
Looks like there's interest in auctioning / selling items for the GT craft fund! I, um, better get in touch with the GT emergency fund people, huh?
What did I get done this week?
I cast on and finished my first double-sided knitting project! I'd been wanting to try double-sided knitting for a while, but always chickened out. It just looked so fiddly, and every set of directions (especially for casting-on) were different. My son really wanted this skull and crossbones hot pad as a whiteboard eraser, so I ended up diving in.
It wasn't as fiddly as I thought it would be, though I had to learn patience. The first row where I started mixing colors I ripped out because it didn't look right. I ended up going back, redoing it, seeing it looked exactly the same, and deciding to move on. Turns out, I was doing it right.
Oh, and I'm super proud of myself. I actually chose to not ignore a mistake, and go ahead and fix it. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! You basically drop a stitch, then pick it back up with a crochet hook. You'll note that I didn't fix all my mistakes. I figure it gives the pad more personality.
I also made my first nail polish using a combination of a base and eye shadow! I picked up a cheap eye shadow on sale at Walgreens and mixed it with some Ulta top coat I'd gotten on deep discount a few months back.
I don't have the exact amounts used because I fiddled around quite a bit. I do know that I had a ratio of 1:1 for the tan and dark brown, and used about 3ml of base. The result? A delightfully matte brown with a bit of shimmer! The first batch was a brown jelly that was okay… so I added more of the tan powder, and it turned into a matte!
I'm going to call it "Fergie's Monster." The wear on this is surprisingly good, for not having a top coat on it. Then again, it's made out of a top coat, so that shouldn't be surprising.
How about you?
