I feel like the pendulum has swung from "privileged people remain stubbornly ignorant and closed-minded about things with which they have no experience" to "privileged people are fixating on events that, while hot-button, really have nothing to do with them, in an attempt to show solidarity with marginalized people."
Oh god, I can already tell this won't make sense because I am so drained and tired lately that I'm unable to articulate my thoughts well. I've noticed an uptick in this, and I can't help but feel like it's disingenuous. I feel like there's a lot of preaching and pontificating to demonstrate how sensitive one is to the plight of others, and not much listening. Or even stepping off of one's soap box to give the people actually impacted by XYZ have a voice. This occurs on a spectrum, of course. Am I making any sense? At all?
Essentially, I am kind of getting tired of white, straight, able-bodied, whatever people telling other white, straight, able-bodied, whatever people what is and what is not offensive about "non" people. I am not talking about earnestly educating, to be clear. I think I have just reached my saturation point.
ETA - This was not borne of anything I read on Jez or GT, but something I saw earlier on my FB feed. This is not me attempting to shit stir HERE, it's my observation/feelings of things I've seen across all platforms.
