This entire article is horribly depressing, but this really makes my blood boil:
The payments are tax-free, but they will force the Norden brothers off the state health insurance program for the poor. At the end of the year, they must begin buying their own medical insurance.
If this isn't an argument that can strike right in the heart of "ain't my problem" fiscal libertarians, then I don't know what is. The most random thing you can imagine puts you in a situation where you are facing a lifetime of medical bills and the probability of never being able to work again, yet somehow you should be fucking responsible for buying your own private insurance or pay out of pocket for millions of dollars worth of surgeries and equipment?
Even if the state somehow "pardons" these folks from getting kicked off the insurance, that is so far from the point it's ridiculous. This should never have happened in the first place, period. And it's even more proof that Obamacare, while a step in the right direction, is a complete joke when compared with the basic level of care available to citizens of EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY ON THE PLANET.
It's not even 9 AM and I'm already done.
