I just got an invitation to my sister-in-law's bridal shower. It is two weeks from tomorrow.
I am registered to do a 26 mile bike ride around the city with a few friends. When I mentioned to Mr. Peachy the reason I couldn't go, he didn't seem convinced it was a good enough reason. The bike ride is worth $55 (although I got a deal on Living Social and only paid $25). I know $25 isn't that much, but I have always wanted to do this bike ride and never knew anyone who would want to come with me. This year, two of my friends bought bikes and I'm working on getting a few more to register. This entire thing was my idea, so I don't really feel like I can cancel (even if I wanted to, which I do not). With only two weeks notice, I don't feel like it's that big of a deal that I already have plans, especially when those plans are not something I can reschedule.
For the record, Mr. Peachy is not close to his sister and neither am I. She did not come to my bridal shower (and I might be wrong, but I don't even think she RSVPed to say she couldn't come).
So am I being an asshole by not going?
Also, I was going to text/email the SIL a quick note apologizing for not being able to go, but I'm not quite sure how to word it. "I can't come to your bridal shower because I'm going on a bike ride" just doesn't really sound legit.
